Contemporary fine art photographer Michael Rothwell creates pieces that strive to be perceived as works of art. Creating large-format pieces enhances the capacity for the work to often be viewed as paintings and not just photography.
“The abstract vision is fascinating to me, offering the opportunity to take something familiar and enhance its visual perspective in an esoteric way. I am drawn to the obscure, perhaps ‘less perfect’ image in quality and structure. For instance, I generally find watching an old grainy Super 8 movie more intersting than a beautifully filmed motion picture. Why exactly, I’m not sure? But for those who might be drawn to the glorious, yet unfamiliar aspects of life and art, my work might just appeal to your sensibilities.”
